Head Start

Head Start is a comprehensive child development program serving preschoolers from low-income families to develop basic skills that they will need to succeed in school. 

 


To achieve this goal, services provided to those children are: 

  • Education in a learning environment
  • Comprehensive health services
  • Disability services for individuals with special needs
  • Nutrition education   
  • Social services   
  • Speech and hearing screenings 
  • Nutritious meals   
  • Parental involvement
  • Parentalnd training opportunities

 

To learn more about specific requirements and services that your local office can provide, please contact your local Head Start center for more information.  (Not all agencies are able to offer the Head Start Program.)
 

Head Start is a Federally funded program through an annual grant from the Department of Health and Human Services/Administration for children and families.  In 2007, Kentucky enrolled 16,071 Children in this programs.  For more information regarding the program, visit the National Head Start Website

 
Early Head Start

Early Head Start is a comprehensive child development program serving infants/toddlers (ages 0-3) and pregnant women in low-income families to promote healthy pregnancies, development of children before preschool, and healthy family structures.
 
To learn more about specific requirements and services that your local office can provide, please contact your local Early Head Start center for more information.  (Not all agencies are able to offer the Early Head Start Program.)
